2008 OUTING AT HIGGINS LAKE

It is time to plan for another fun weekend at Higgins Lake where we will be staying at the Ralph A. MacMullen Conference Center. The Michigan Ski for Light regional rally / race takes place January 18,19,20 2008. If you have never attended before, let me give you a brief description. A visually-impaired person and a guide will be paired up for the weekend for teaching and guiding at the ski area. A mobility-impaired person will be provided a sit ski and a guide to teach and help at the ski area. (Note: visually-impaired and mobility-impaired persons are also refered to as skiers and participants throughout this web site.) Registration starts at 3:00 PM on Friday, and a buffet supper is available as people continue to arrive. The official opening by Kathy Emig, President of Michigan Ski for Light is at 7:15 PM. Check the complete Schedule of Events. You will notice that orientation for first time guides is scheduled for early afternoon on Friday. This is a meeting that is highly recommended. It is provided as a service, which other first timers have requested, to answer questions about the weekends events.

Please fill out an on line application to be returned by January 4th, 2008. This year we have separate blind & visually impaired, mobility impaired, guide, and workerbee applications. (Note: A workerbee is a spouse, driver, chaperon or other nonskiing attendant and will need to have prior permission to attend.) For more information or to get permission for a workerbee contact msfl@msfl.org. If you do not want to use the on line application please copy the application and mail to this address:

Michigan Ski for Light
810 W. Park Street
St. Johns, MI 48879

The cost of this year's event is $150.00 for the weekend, which includes meals and lodging. New this year we have a limited number of rooms in the Straits at $170.00 per person. Also, ski rentals are $20.00 for the weekend. Once again if we do not have your application with ski rental information by January 4th, you will be asked to rent your own skis.

Please note that the above cost includes a $15.00 membership fee. If you are not planning to attend this year's event but would like to remain a member and stay on the mailing list, please send your $15.00 membership fee. We use this money to help defray the cost of mailing and this web site.
